First Smile!

Teagan is doing much better now. She has finally given in and is not crying as much. This photo was taken last night after a bath which she actually enjoyed. She finally took 4 ounces of formula at 4:45 AM this morning. She took another 4 ounces at 6:30 and just took another 7 ounces at 8AM. She is making up for lost time! I think she is finally coming around. The fever has left too. I know she was and will still have times of mourning for her foster family. She has gone through so much the last 48 hours. I know her foster family really loved her--I actually found another Chinese message written on a sweater she was wearing. I found it this morning and haven't seen Peter yet to ask what it says. I also have a feeling that Teagan was being nursed by her foster mother and that this is the first she has really taken a bottle. She was rooting around with mouth open to the sides searching when she was so upset and refusing the bottle. Julie, thank you for the words of support--it made me cry when I read it. I have thought about you a lot knowing that this is what you went through with Linnea. I too think that Teagan looks like Linnea at this age. Marilyn, Garage sale queen, are they any sales around? I need an exercauser for at home for Teagan. She can not yet sit up as reported to me in her medical and she is so heavy to always hold. Beth M., thanks for the report on Mitsey. Briley is very worried about her and she was glad to hear that her kitten is well. When is Amanda's year of birth? I want to get her something from China and need her year of birth. Today we will go sightseeing for the first time. It has been raining a lot here and today we have no adoption meetings, so we will explore China today. Tonight I will post how it went. I also wanted to tell you that I got to see Briley's director of the orphanage that she stayed in. I recognized him right away. He was so proud to see Briley and when I told him her Chinese name, he beamed with pride. He remember her and hugged her. He also had a camera and had someone take his picture with Briley. He then gave Briley a necklace with a Chinese Lion face on it. It was really neat. I will go for now...we are going down to the buffet for breakfast.~Debbie

Hi Deb...
So glad to hear that Teagan seems to be getting into a groove. You have been given such good advice there is nothing much that I could add. The formula thing that Julie talked about sounds like a good plan and addiing some solids might be good too. I really liked Jodi's idea about a stuffed animal or toy from the foster home....maybe you dont have one but you do have her clothes that she had on when you got her and you probably havent washed them yet. I know it sounds weird but maybe let her snuggle with an item of those clothes when you give her a bottle....the sense of smell might be enough to just calm her and make you represent what she is missing for now....especially if she was breast fed. Another wacko idea is to bottle feed her with as much of your skin touching her face/body....it may make the bottle feeding feel more like breast feeding. I won't go into any graphic explanation as to what you need to do with that because if Rollie is reading this it may make him blush!! but worth a try I think. I will post again if I can think of anything else that might help.

By the way....you are no good for Teagan if you are not taking care of yourself.....Have your mom take both girls and you take 30-45 mins minumum to just take a hot bubble bath....take that time without the chaos to just reflect and lean on God and probably as Julie said "cry" and just renew your spirit a bit. It will make a HUGE difference....

Debbie,
Tell Mom and Dad everything is fine at the house. I checked on everything after school today (Monday). Let mom know I got her email, and I sent a response back but haven't heard anything. I was wondering if she has checked...I would like to know if it is working.
Is dad having better luck with food? Has he been checking his sugar? Keep us posted and good luck!!

Yea and what a beautiful smile it is!!!!!!!
Okay now this is really getting weird. Before IFS sent me the English translation I had a friend who was older and was born and raised in China translate her medical. The symbol for her bottle feeding was a symbol used for breast feeding, Mei said a young person would not know the correct meaning of the symbol just as a bottle. When she got mad at me she would pinch the heck out of the the skin near my bra strap. So sorry out there, probably way too much info for some ;0)
Debbie Linnea also loved a soft fleece blanket that to this day she still rubs on her lips. I found out through the picture of her foster Mom that she wore a fleece jacket.
You are making great stides with her.
I know big sister is doing a great job. How wonderful you got to see Director Lu. That was a special treat for Briley.
Hugs!
Julie and Linnea

Debbie- that is so cool that as you go along things are starting to work out and make sense. I did not see Nancy, but I will give her a call tomorrow for you. I thought about using her clothes too while you bottle her. The scent of a familiar smell may do wonders. How about a chinese lullaby tape? that will probably drive you nuts, but may be worth a try and possibly some ear plugs too! Hee Hee Jodi

Debbie, Briley, and Teagan:
I'm sooo glad things are going better. The pictures are great...good to see you are all out and about and having some fun! I remember - it was a big change just to go from having one child to two. I thought of that when I saw your Wal-Mart photos...the first of many visits.
The cat is still doing fine and Amanda played with her a long time last night.
FYI-Amanda's birth year is 1990.
Our best to you and I hope you enjoy this special time in China. We can't wait until you get home and we can meet your new daughter.
