A New Adventure
I realized this has been the longest that I have gone without updating my blog. I guess life is just busy right now. I haven't even taken many pictures this month which is unusual for me. We are looking forward to Easter break and some time away from the busy hustle bustle of our daily routines of school and work. ********************************************************************* And now...our new adventure: 4-H! ********** Briley is old enough to join 4-H this year and she chose rabbits as her project (with a little coaxing!) We have had a rabbit for about 3 years now, so Briley already has an idea of daily care of rabbits. But, when time came for 4-H, she actually wanted a goat. Since we live in town and I know nothing about goats, she decided to start with rabbits and maybe some year, we will venture out and take a goat. We are learning that there is a LOT to learn about rabbits. We got our market rabbit, a Californian, in March. We named her "Harper" after the breeder we bought her from (it's his last name). Harper is about one and a half and she weighs around 10 pounds. She is a BIG rabbit. She will be bred in May and produce a litter of bunnies in June. Briley will then choose her best bunny or kit to take to the fair. The rabbit she takes to the fair is then sold to market. We keep the doe and repeat the breeding process again next year. We are excited to have babies someday!
Briley is also taking a Breed rabbit project. With this project, she chooses a breed of rabbit she is interested in and learns how to care and show this type of rabbit. Briley got her breed rabbit last weekend. He is a Holland Lop and his name is Bentley. He came already with this name (which also happens to be the name of my niece!).
